Adelita X. Hinojosa-Martin is a native of Denton, Texas and has earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing (cum laude) from Texas Woman’s University. While in college she trained and performed with ballet coach Arleen Sugano, creator of the SuganoSystem (a pragmatic methodology of mastering professional classical ballet technique). Adelita resided in New York City from 2005-2014, where she soared as a professional dancer. While in NYC, she primarily trained with Cecilia Marta, Max Stone & Jana Hicks. In addition to her professional dance career, Adelita worked as a registered nurse at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the world’s oldest and largest private cancer center.

Most recently, Adelita taught and choreographed for the Joffrey Ballet School’s Jazz & Contemporary Summer Intensive in New York City. She pushed her students toward excellence by teaching proper body alignment according to the individual body type and emphasized the importance of connecting with sound and music, as if the body were its own musical instrument. Adelita was the jazz and latin-jazz teaching assistant for the well-known and loved Cecilia Marta. From 2008-2010 she was the rehearsal assistant for the Cecilia Marta Dance Company (CMDC), and the rehearsal director in 2013. In the recent past, she also assisted Max Stone at the Complexions Contemporary Ballet Winter Intensive. Adelita frequently taught jazz, contemporary jazz, and latin-jazz in New York City at Peridance Capezio Center, Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway. While in NYC, Adelita worked as a freelance dancer consistently performing with the CMDC, xodus dance collective, and A Corps Perdu. She has also performed as a company member with Alpha Omega Theatrical Dance Company, Organic Magnetics, and The Next Stage Project. She performed as a guest artist for the Errol Grimes Dance Group, Battery Dance Company, and numerous Cirque de Soleil premiere events in and around New York City. Adelita has had her choreography shown in New York City and Penang, Malaysia. Adelita has worked with Tony Award winning associate choreographer Maija Garcia (Broadway Show FELA!), Emmy Award-nominee choreographer Brian Thomas, and many inspirational musical artists such as Edward “EGO” Martin, Jason Moran and Meshell NdegeOcello.

In early 2014, Adelita moved back to the Dallas-Forth Worth metroplex. She is excited to bring her knowledge and talent to her hometown area.

“Adelita Hinojosa-Martin and Samuel Turner of xodus dance collective performed you hear, me see, we feel with aplomb and panache.”
